The new model puts emphasis on the marketing and promotional strategy so that it can reach a wider audience. Engagement of appropriate stakeholders will ensure a better recruitment process so the program can have greater impact. The implementation process is structured so that all activities are aligned with the strategic objectives of the program and it creates a scope for proper monitoring and evaluation. The revised model has made room to link mentees with relevant organisations where they might find their next step. It also creates a wider platform via social media for the mentors and mentees to share learnings and discuss the issues they encounter.
This is a highly specialised program where each mentee gets a dedicated expert from Australia with years of experience in the relevant field who can support them very closely as the mentee implements a community-based project. Support typically includes technical advice and personal development coaching.
Most of the mentees, choose projects around voluntarism and charity work, typically focused on environment, sustainability, education of under-privileged children, health and hygine, awareness raising for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, economic empowerment etc. These initiatives not only help communities to be a better one but also promote hands-on experience of the mentees in the area of planning, designing and implementing their own projects, setting them up for a better career in the future.
Mentors take pride in being part of the inspiring works their mentees do and enjoy learning about a new culture and contributing to that community. The contribution of mentors is also financial, which helps LG Professionals Australia to run the program.
Now the ground is prepared for the next phase of the International Mentoring Program. The strengthened program strategy enabling local organisations to take a greater stake will set it up for ongoing success. LG Professionals Australia is looking forward to working with a new round of young local leaders who will take the lead to change their communities in the near future.
